Welcome to Animal Health Hydrotherapy.
Whether you are looking for hydrotherapy for rehabilitation, weight loss or fitness for your pet, we hope we can help.
A healthier and more active lifestyle
Located in Forfar, our custom built pool and premises are here to help your pet lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. We will achieve this through the use of hydrotherapy, where we aim to reduce pain, strengthen muscles and improve mobility following surgery or injury. Our commitment is to provide the best quality care for your pet and to liaise with you and your referring veterinarian.
We welcome pets who require our services for rehabilitation, weight loss and swimming for fitness. Veterinary referral is necessary for every dog that we see and can be simply obtained by downloading our vet referral form.
Referral Rehabilitation Swims
When your pet is referred for hydrotherapy, we will carry out an assessment and liaise with veterinary staff to provide an individualised plan which will be regularly reviewed to optimise health benefits. During the session, the aims will include improving mobility, coordination and strength. The session length will vary according to the needs of your pet.
Hydrotherapy allows animals to exercise in a non weight bearing manner, with the warm water helping to alleviate pain and can be beneficial for many conditions such as hip dysplasia, arthritis, cruciate ligament tears, degenerative myelopathy (DM) and neurological conditions. Your pet may also be referred for hydrotherapy pre or post surgery once wounds are completely healed.
Fitness Swims
Structured swim sessions in a non-weight bearing environment can be an important part of a fitness programme for your canine athlete.
Hydrotherapy is a great way to increase muscle mass and improve cardiovascular fitness and stamina which is important for many dog sports, for example dog agility, flyball, canicross etc.
Weight Loss and Senior Dogs
Your dog will receive a health and weight check followed by a gentle and gradual introduction to the hydrotherapy pool. These sessions provide gentle exercise for older pets and/or those overweight with a therapeutic swim. Hydrotherapy can form an important part in a weight loss programme and in helping to manage metabolic conditions. It is important to reduce obesity in dogs as it can lead to many other health conditions, e.g. arthritis, heart disease and metabolic abnormalities. For older dogs, the buoyancy in the water can provide a non weight-bearing environment in which to exercise.
